Footpaths, pavements, pedestrians

The sidewalk is reserved for pedestrians, the bicycle lane for cyclists.

Outside pedestrian crossings, pedestrians must give way to vehicles.

In case of heavy traffic, pedestrians must walk on the right side of the pedestrian crossing and, if possible, cross the road in groups.

In the case of pedestrian crossings without traffic regulation, which are divided by a traffic island, each part of the crossing is considered to be an independent strip

On pedestrian crossings without traffic regulation, pedestrians have the right of way, except in front of the tramway. However, they may not use the right of way if the vehicle is already so close that it could not stop in time.

pedestrian crossing Pedestrians must step carefully onto the roadway, especially in front of and behind cars that are stopping; they must cross the road unimpeded. They must use pedestrian crossings, overpasses or underpasses if they are less than 50 m away.

On the roadway, pedestrians shall walk on the right side instead of on the left side, if they have the possibility to give way only there or if they are carrying a vehicle, except a baby carriage. They avoid frequent changing of the road side

The signal “Prohibition for pedestrians” forbids the pedestrians to enter the street.

The signal “Pedestrian way” obliges pedestrians to use the way marked for them.

Pedestrian lanes may be used by vehicles only if pedestrian traffic is not hindered.

If a vehicle has to use the sidewalk, the driver is obliged to take special care of pedestrians and give them the right of way.

Paths which are not suitable or obviously not intended for traffic by motor vehicles or bicycles, such as footpaths and footpaths, may not be used by such vehicles.

Bicycles may be parked on the sidewalk, provided that a space at least 1.50 m wide is left free for pedestrians. Parking of other vehicles on the sidewalk is prohibited unless expressly permitted by signals or markings. In the absence of such a signal, they may stop on the sidewalk only for cargo handling or for letting people in and out; a space at least 1.50 m wide must be kept free for pedestrians at all times. Loading and unloading must be completed without delay.

At junctions with traffic control, pedestrians may cross the carriageway only when the traffic in their direction is free. Exceptions to this rule are signs given by the police and special lights for pedestrians.
