Crossing

Crossing on the Right

  • Drivers must maintain a safe distance from all road users, especially when crossing, overtaking, or driving side by side or behind other vehicles.
  • The driver must yield to oncoming traffic if their lane is obstructed by an obstacle on their side of the road.

CROSSING

Right of Way on Narrow Roads

  • Trailer trucks have right of way over other vehicles, heavy vehicles over light ones, and company cars over trucks. Among vehicles of the same type, the vehicle closer to a passing place must reverse.

Steep and Mountain Roads

  • If crossing is not possible on steep or mountain roads, the vehicle going downhill must reverse unless the other vehicle is near a passing place.
  • On mountain roads, in difficult crossing or overtaking situations, drivers must follow signs and instructions from regular traffic drivers.
  • Drivers must keep at least 1 meter lateral distance when crossing or overtaking tracked vehicles.

Give Way to Oncoming Traffic

The “Give Way to Oncoming Traffic” signal requires the driver moving in the direction of the red arrow to give way to oncoming traffic when the road narrows. This rule does not apply to single-track vehicles (e.g., bicycles, motorcycles) if the driver can safely determine that they can cross the narrowed section without danger.

At the opposite end of the road narrowing is the “Precedence Over Oncoming Traffic” signal, which tells drivers moving in the direction of the white arrow that they may proceed. Oncoming multi-lane vehicles must wait. However, if these vehicles are already in the narrowed lane, the driver with the right of way must yield.
