Wearing seat belts

Seat Belt Requirements in Vehicles

  • In passenger cars, vans, minibuses, and light semitrailers, both the driver and passengers are required to wear seat belts while driving.

Child Safety Seat Requirements

  • Children under seven years old must be secured in a seat next to the driver using an ECE-approved child restraint device or another approved device (e.g., child seat) as designated by the Swiss Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications.
  • Children aged seven to twelve years must use either the approved child restraint device or the existing seat belts in all seats. If more children in this age group are seated behind the driver than there are available safety belts, at least as many children as there are seat belts must be properly secured.
