In multi-track motor vehicles other than motorcycles, only as many persons may be carried as seats are authorized

Cyclists of at least 16 years of age may carry a child of not more than seven years of age in a safe child seat. The seat must protect the child’s legs in particular and must not obstruct the bicyclist.

Only one passenger may ride on motorcycles; he or she must sit astride and be able to use running boards or footrests. A child under the age of seven may be carried only in an officially approved child seat.

Only working personnel and family members of the owner or his employees may be carried on agricultural motor vehicles and trailers and only during agricultural journeys

On and in trailers, only personnel for driving, braking or monitoring the load may be carried; on trailers on tractors in local traffic, also personnel for loading and unloading may be carried

On loading areas of motor vehicles – with the exception of motorcycles and agricultural motor vehicles – only the personnel for loading and unloading and for monitoring the load may be carried, on journeys between the company and the place of work also other working personnel. Passengers must be seated on seats and standing areas or on a protected loading area.

Drivers and passengers are not allowed to hold or throw objects out of the vehicle, except when moving on closed roads.
Climbing on and off moving motor vehicles and streetcars is prohibited, as is leaning out.

No persons are allowed to ride in rooms that cannot be opened from the inside; police transports are excluded

Children under the age of seven must be secured in seats next to the driver with an ECE-approved child restraint device or another child restraint device (e.g. child seat) approved by the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications.

In passenger cars, vans, minibuses and light semitrailers, the driver and passengers must wear their seat belts while driving.

As many children under seven years of age may ride in the seats behind the driver as can be seated there; three children from seven to twelve years of age are considered two persons

No persons may be carried on trailers attached to motorcycles and bicycles. Carrying a maximum of two children on a bicycle trailer with protected seats is allowed
