Authority Instructions

The signs and instructions from the following authorities are mandatory for road users:

  • Police
  • Military traffic authorities
  • Uniformed members of the fire department
  • Civil defense personnel
  • Marked members of school, work, and cadet traffic services
  • Personnel at road construction sites
  • Customs authorities
  • Operating personnel at rail crossings
  • Drivers of vehicles in public service on mountain roads

Drivers must adhere to these directives while on the road.

Obeying Signs and Instructions

Signs and instructions from other individuals must be followed when they are intended to prevent danger or manage difficult traffic situations.

When traffic is controlled by the police, road users must wait for their signal, except when in a moving column and no stop signal is given.

Hand Signals

  • Holding up one arm: Stop before the junction for all directions.
  • Extending one arm: Stop for traffic coming from behind.
  • Extending both arms sideways: Stop for traffic coming from both the rear and the front.
  • Waving: Free movement in the corresponding direction.
  • Up and down movement of the arm: Slow down.
