Entering and Navigating Traffic Circles
Before entering a traffic circle, the driver must reduce speed and yield to vehicles approaching from the left.
When entering a traffic circle, and while driving within it without changing lanes, the driver does not need to signal. However, indication is required when leaving the circle.
In traffic circles without lane divisions, cyclists may choose not to ride on the right.
The “traffic circle” signal indicates the direction that traffic must follow within the circle.
Correct Behavior at Traffic Circles
- Right of Way: Vehicles already in the traffic circle have the right of way over those entering from the right. Drivers must slow down before entering and ensure no vehicles with the right of way are approaching. No turn signal is needed when entering.
- Indicating When Leaving: Before exiting the traffic circle, the driver must signal right. However, this should not be done too early to avoid confusing drivers entering the circle.
- Special Attention to Two-Wheelers: Extra care should be taken around two-wheelers, and they should not be overtaken if possible. Any lane changes within the traffic circle must be indicated.
- Watch for Pedestrians: When entering and especially when leaving the traffic circle, drivers must be vigilant for pedestrians and give them the right of way at pedestrian crossings.
