Towing

Towing poles must be no more than 5 m long, towing ropes no more than 8 m long. The rope shall be conspicuously marked in the middle. Chains may not be used, nor metallic ropes for motorbikes.

Motorbikes may only be towed when broken down. The driver must be able to release the rope immediately if necessary.

The maximum speed when towing vehicles, also by means of a towing trolley or semi-mounted, is 40 km/h.

The breakdown signal must be attached to the rear of towed vehicles.

On motorways, broken-down vehicles may only be towed to the next exit. The right-hand lane must be used (not the emergency lane).
