Overview
To drive a taxi in Switzerland you need the additional authorisation BPT (professional passenger transport) with Code 121 on your driving licence. As you already hold category B, you build on it — in clear theory and practical steps. The theory test is the ARV 2 additional theory.
Before you start
Before you can register for the tests you have to meet three conditions:
Minimum age 19.
At least one year of category B — with a clean record during that time (no licence withdrawal).
Submit a learner permit application with the road traffic office, then a traffic medical examination (level 2): eyesight, reactions and general health are checked more strictly than for a car licence.

Driving style is decisive: smooth, anticipatory and gentle — the passenger should feel comfortable. Jerky braking or accelerating quickly leads to a fail.
Vehicle control: turning in a tight space, reverse parallel parking and securing the vehicle on a slope have to be flawless.
Orientation & language: find the destination on your own; understand Swiss German and speak standard German.
Retaking: twice with your own car. From the 3rd attempt the office requires confirmation of training from a driving instructor — a few check lessons usually pay off.
Der Code 121 is entered on your driving licence → you may transport passengers commercially throughout Switzerland (including for services such as Uber).
For a classic taxi service (official ranks, picking up at the roadside) you additionally need, depending on the canton (e.g. Zurich, Bern), a cantonal/municipal taxi permit — usually with a criminal record extract, proof of language skills (B1) and a car with a calibrated taximeter.
