Swiss Driving Theory · RTA / TRO
These manoeuvres are often slow and unexpected for others – which is why special duties of care apply.
When moving off from the kerb you are obliged to give way: you must not obstruct other road users. Check the mirror, do the shoulder check and signal moving off with the indicator.
Only slowly and over short distances.
You must be able to oversee the whole carriageway behind you; if visibility is insufficient, use a helper.
When reversing you are obliged to wait for the rest of the traffic.
Reversing is forbidden on motorways and semi-motorways and at places with poor visibility.
Turning around is allowed only if it is possible without danger or obstruction. It is forbidden in particular:
on motorways and semi-motorways,
at places with poor visibility (bends, crests),
before and on level crossings,
where signs or markings forbid it.
