Condition of the driver

Anyone who is drunk, overtired or otherwise unfit to drive must not drive a vehicle.

In order to avoid overtiredness, it is very important to interrupt the journey and take breaks at least every 2-3 hours on longer journeys.

Inability to drive due to alcohol (drunkenness) is considered proven in any case when the driver has a blood alcohol concentration of 0.5 or more ppm by weight or has an amount of alcohol in the body that leads to such a blood alcohol concentration.

However, even a much smaller amount of alcohol can lead to punishment. It takes about eight hours for 1.0 per mille of alcohol to decompose. The ability to drive can already be impaired from 0.2 per mille.

Taking medication or drugs together with alcohol can intensify the effect and lead to an inability to drive.

No one may leave a vehicle to a driver who is not fit to drive.
