IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON THE CAR / MOTORBIKE THEORY TEST IN SWITZERLAND

Exam:

  • At the theory exam, ASA theory questions come
  • You have 45 minutes to complete 50 ASA theory questions.
  • Multiple choice questions: Currently, each theory question always has 3 answers. 1-2 answers may be correct.
  • There used to be multiple choice theory questions with 2 up to 5 answers. At the exam there are currently only multiple choice theory questions with 3 answers.
  • 15 fault points possible. An incorrect answer within a theory question counts as a fault point. Oder anders: 135 Punkte (90%) reichen zum bestehen der Theorieprüfung.
  • A maximum of 150 points are possible on the theory exam. For 50 questions with 3 answers each -> 50×3 = 150 points
  • A theory question gives a maximum of 3 points. An incorrectly ticked answer gives no point and also counts as a demerit point (15 fault points possible)
  • There are NEVER 3 right answers or 3 wrong answers to a theory question.

Exam categories:

Car / motorbike / scooter are part of the basic theory. Means: These have the SAME theory questions in the theory exam. (That’s why these categories are in the Auto App at Fahrlehrer24)

Languages at the theory exam:

  • The exam language is German / French / Italian and possibly English (ask at the road traffic office in your canton if they also do the theory exam in English).

Registration for the theory exam:

You can register for the car/motorcycle theory test at the road traffic office in your canton. The theory test must be taken on site at the Road Traffic Office and can NOT be taken online.

50 theory questions and 45 minutes time

At the theory exam you have 50 theory questions. You have to answer these within 45 minutes.

Point system at the theory exam

The theory test is a multi choice test.

Every theory question has:

  • ALWAYS 3 answers (There used to be theory questions with 2 to 5 answers. This changed a few years ago. At the exam there are only theory questions with 3 answers).
  • 1 or 2 two answers can be correct. There are NEVER 3 right or 3 wrong answers.
  • Each correct answer within a theory question gives one point. 3 correct answers result in 3 points. An incorrect answer that is not ticked is answered correctly.
  • A theory question has 3 answers. If all 3 answers are ticked correctly, this results in 3 points per theory question. There are 50 theory questions on the theory exam. 50 x 3 thus results in 150 maximum possible points.

Theory exam passed IF:

IF:

  • If you score 135 points out of a maximum possible 150 points. That means you have to answer at least 90% of the answers correctly.
  • Or in reverse: You are allowed 15 error points. An error point is an incorrect answer within a theory question.

Note on the Fahrlehrer24 app

The app’s scoring system is exactly the same as at the theory exam.

In addition to the points, it also shows how the individual theory question is answered overall:

    • The theory question is answered “correctly” if all 3 answers within the theory question are answered correctly (Equivalent to 3 points).
    • The theory question is “partially correct” if 1 or 2 answers within the theory question are answered correctly (Equivalent to 1-2 points).
    • The theory question is answered “incorrectly” if no answer is correct (Corresponds to 0 points).

The ASA provides a test theory exam. This is exactly how the theory test will look like. The theory exam takes place on PC and you can familiarise yourself with the user interface.
